The museum looks small but it is filled with information on how marble was made; buildings that our marble has been used in and a host of other information.
Some of the buildings where Georgia marble has been used is:
- New York Stock Exchange
- Museum of Modern Art
- US Capitol (East Front)
- Library of Congress
- Tate School and Tate House
- Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial
- Lincoln Memorial
And each year, you can tour the marble quarries by signing up through the Pickens County Chamber of Commerce during the Georgia Marble Festival (usually held each October). We went this year and the quarry tour was very interesting - it included a trip to the Pickens County Marble Museum and the Tate Cemetery. I would encourage you to take the tour -- the marble is considered some of the best quality in the world and the marble quarry is the largest one in North America!
