I recently went back to Providence State Park and hiked up and down 3 of the canyon trails. It is still amazing to me after all these years.
It is considered to be one of the Seven Natural Wonders of Georgia. Providence Canyon actually is not a purely natural feature — the massive gullies (the deepest being 150 feet) were caused by erosion due to poor farming in the 19th century.
While the park's visitor center is no longer open, hikers can enjoy views of the canyons from the rim trail, and backpackers can stay overnight along the backcountry trail. \\
Camping and cottages are available nearby at Florence Marina State Park on beautiful Lake Walter F. George.
